This coffee estate lies in a micro region of Costa Rica, Cachi, Orisi Valley.
Volcanic soils, leguminous shade trees and cold evening temperatures all lend a heavy hand in growing rich, full flavored coffee beans.
The Farmers
Cecilia Genis, a fourth generation farmer, runs the Zalmari Coffee Estate with her mother, Marigold Murray. Since the farms inception in the 1920s the estate's values have been firm: protect the environment with sustainable business practices, support the Cachi community and farm top quality coffee.
Cecilia and her mother are longtime members on the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA) and are very passionate about women's empowerment, their farm being the first to earn the Women Care Certified (WCC) award. This award is meant to improve the sustainable lifestyle for women involved with cultivating, processing, trading and exporting coffee. They are some of the sweetest, most passionate and driven individuals we have ever met and are excited to continue working with them.

How they Started
Farmers Project was founded by Jonathan Jost and Marianella Baez Jost of Café Con Amor. When they gave up their corporate jobs to follow their passion as coffee farmers in Costa Rica, they were struck by how hard local farmers worked, only to sell their coffee for prices that could not sustain the most basic lifestyle.
The Farmers Project was started to help local farmers in Costa Rica sell their coffee for a fair price to support their workers, their farms, and their families. Sharing this vision, farmers could learn from one another, share best practices, and export their specialty coffee together.
